ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LIVING IN POTONG PASIR !!!

"How far is the nearest Seven-Eleven store from almost anywhere in Potong Pasir ?" The answer is, not at all ! Many of the residents living in this small neighbourhood will say that Potong Pasir, is the best place to live in Singapore. But there are also a few Singaporeans who disagree with the statement. What are the advantages or disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir ? As for me, i personally agree that the advantages of living in Potong Pasir greatly overwhelms the disadvantages of it . Today i will be sharing on the advantages of living in Potong Pasir.

Potong Pasir is a very small neighbourhood where everything is just a stone throw away, which also in other words means that it is very convenient. To begin with, the local MRT station is very nearby, it would only take a few minutes walk to get there, there are also a number of buses routing into Potong Pasir, and a few that passes by it. That makes Potong Pasir a very easily accessable place.

There is also a number of schools for students ranging from pre-school to college ! There is the Acension Kindergarten, St Andrew's Junior School, St Andrew's Secondary School, St Andrew's Junior College ! All in one village ! This mainly attract the attention of most students who want to get a higher education as the schools above are better than most schools. There are also affiliation points between the schools mentioned .

Potong Pasir also meets the residential needs of many who live here, to begin with, this small town meets the religious needs of the many people that are here in Singapore. There is a Christian Church, Buddhist temple, Indian temple, and also a Mosque for the Muslims. Singapore is a city with many races and religions, it would be very important to have places of religion to meet the religious needs of many people. There are also many medical and dental clinics around Potong Pasir which are highly convenient to many.

There is a Community Club in Potong Pasir, which provides many facilities such as a basketball court, badminton court, and even a archery range. Which is accompanied by a number of activities such as Tae-Kwon-Do courses, archery courses, acadamic enrichment courses and many more! The CC also organizes some mass excercises to keep the elderly living in Potong Pasir fit and healthy.

Potong Pasir also has many places of interest around, like the street-soccer court, a rope-climbing structure, fast food restaurants, eateries, mini-marts, a wet market, a many more!

I personally do not live in Potong Pasir, but i have been studying there for 3 years. So far life in this small town, has pleased me very much and i would not hesitate to live here .

Advantages and Disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir, an estate, although small, everybody’s needs are met. Under leadership of Mr Chiam See Tong for the past 27 years has seen much growth. The estate which is the home of the Saints and its residents, has many facilities ready for use by the residents.
Situated in the middle of Potong Pasir stands the Potong Pasir Community Centre, where there are facilities such as basketball courts, archery range, a multi-purpose hall, and many more.
Food is also of abundance in the estate. There are common fast food restaurants, McDonald’s and KFC, 2 coffee shops which have been there for at least 20 years and a bubble tea shop. There are also provision shops such as 7-11 and ABC minimart.
The lively saints have also been part of this estate for a long time. They have organized activities to help the community such as giving canned food to the elderly and cleaning up of the Kallang River.
Despite the pros of living in Potong Pasir, there are still cons. One of which is the lack of shelters. The roads are also a problem as they are narrow and thus causing a jam almost every morning outside the Saint Andrew’s Village due to parents dropping of their children. The bus stops within Potong Pasir have only 1 bus going to most of them.
Potong Pasir, with all its pros and cons, is still a beautiful place to live in, and has the potential to grow in the years to come.

Advantages and Disadvantage of Living in Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir is an area located in the south east of Singapore,
it is also where our school is and many of my schoolmates live.
Athough  i am not living Potong Pasir and have not been in to the
neighbourhood before. It was only last friday that our english teacher
brought us to tour around the area that i realised the advantage of living
in Potong Pasir.
It is an area where few races of people live together, during the trip i
saw different religious building where different races of people use to
worship their god ,the advantage of living in the area is that first of all,
it leads to a richer life . for example in multi-racial area, it is possible
to enjoy so many cultures. There is opportunity to learn from each other
and enrich one's own culture by taking the best from the others . There
are also community centre in the neighbourhood and thos helped to bring
people together, so that they develope closeness to each other and are more
cohersive. The centre also organises activities for the people who live in the area.
For example there are some tuition classes to enrich students with knowledge
and guide them through their examinations, and activities for the ageing population
to keep them healthy and active. The community centre also have an easier task.
Information spreading is fast. The people can understand what their MPs are planning
for the town.
The disadvantages are few but do exist.Potong Pasir is a small area where large number
of people live, although people have a sense of unity but unconvenience do occur, for example
in the morning when i was on the bus to school i often see traffic jam along the road, i believe
the residence here have to wake up ealier to travel to their work places. If the resident wanted
to buy electronic products or shopping they also have limited choices, because in the area
there is no shopping malls and they have go to other places.I think this is very troublesome
for the people.
In my opinion i still believe living in Potong Pasir is very comfortable and exciting and the
advantages far outweighs the disadvantages.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF POTONG PASIR

Why is Potong Pasir, your kind of town? Could it be the secure neighbourhood      The friendly neighbours? The vast improvements that have been taking place ? Potong Pasir has become my second home ever since the start of my school life in St Andrews Junior School and now that I have gone to the Secondary school it has been 9 years, coming to the place about five times a week for school, I can only describe Potong Pasir in one word, ‘Home’. Hence, without further ado, I will proceed to the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.

To begin Potong Pasir has a good location in Singapore because it is accessible and close to the city. It also has lots of potential in terms in its value and future growth. It is not at all appropriate to compare the performances of the town councils as the profile and age of the properties are totally different. There is also an inequality in the funds granted among the town councils and the improvement works carried out by the government. Potong Pasir is a mature estate where the blocks are 25 to 35 years old. Constant efforts are being made using our available resources to maintain as best as possible. For example: Lift maintenance companies are already replacing some of the automatic rescue devices.

The advantages of the Residential Facilities in Potong Pasir -
There are many schools in Potong Pasir, such as SAJS, SASS, SAJC and Cedar. The area also houses places of worship for Christians, Muslims and Hindus. They have churches: Chapel of the Holy Spirit and Ascension Church, a Mosque: Masjid Alkaff, and a Hindu temple: Sri Siva Durga Temple (Formally known as Sri Sivan Temple). In Potong Pasir there are also many new condominiums that are under construction. In Potong Pasir the residents are always prone to diseases that is where the nearby clinics comes in. There are 3 clinics altogether:  Ban Kok Clinic and Surgery, Neo Medical Centre and Goh Medical Clinic. There is even a Chinese physician shop for older generation people that prefer to take Chinese herbs than modern medicine.
Now imagine you are doing your work when you feel like having a snack to eat. What do you do? Let me tell you. You can go to the many nearby convenience shops like 7-eleven, ABC, Good Price Centre or the many other local shops.
In Potong Pasir, there are many food stalls for everyone. There are fast food restaurants like KFC and MacDonalds. There are uncountable numbers of coffee shops in Potong Pasir. The coffee shops cater to all races and religions. From Malay food to Chinese to food Western food and to Indian food. Last but not least, there is a community centre that provides courses for the young and the old. There are courses for cooking, for music, for dancing and many many more. There is a child care centre, a music room, a dance studio, an indoor archery, a basketball court, a tennis hall and a street soccer court. But mainly the community centre is for the retired elderly that prefers to do a course during their free time. Lastly, in Potong Pasir, there are all forms of transportation. Taxi, buses and MRTs. So don’t worry if you are worried how to get around Singapore if you don’t have a vehicle. It is easily accessible.

Now on to the disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.

The road leading to St Andrew’s Village is too narrow as many eager parents send their children to school causing a huge traffic jam. In Potong Pasir there are no pharmaceutical shops like Watsons and Guardian. Another disadvantage is it hygiene in the coffee shops as the germs around may affect the food and cause food poisoning to our students and to the residents of Potong Pasir. There is also no temple for the Buddhist and the Taoist residents. And there is only one bus, 142, that goes through the neighbourhood.

But overall, living in Potong Pasir has many advantages and conveniences of living here. I would definitely chose Potong Pasir as my home because everything is near and that we do not have to go to the town area for our items.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir has many advantages and disadvantages. It definitely has more advantages than disadvantages. One of its advantages is that there are many dining places such as coffee-shops, fast food restaurants e.g. Mcdonalds and KFC, and a food court. Even at the MRT station you can buy food. It makes your life much easier by helping you get food fast when you’re in a rush. There are also many convenience stores such 7 Elevens and an ABC convenience store.
The second advantage is that there are many transport services around the area. There are quite a number of bus-stops, an MRT station and a taxi stand. These transport systems make it a whole lot easier for residents of Potong Pasir to travel around Singapore. Another advantage is that there is a furniture shop in the heart of Potong Pasir. This saves time and transport money to go to a shopping centre in town and buy furniture. Adding to the advantages there is a market where the residents can buy groceries for their cooking. Also not forgetting the community centre where the residents can send their children for tuition, dance lessons, and music lessons.
Now are the disadvantages, I’ve kept it to the last because there are very few one. One disadvantage is that Potong Pasir looks quite old so I personally suggest a major refurbishment. One more is that there is only one street soccer and basketball court. There are many people who use these facilities and sometimes it gets overcrowded. So introducing more of such courts will be benefiting for the residents.
These are the advantages and disadvantages of Potong Pasir.

Advantages and Disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.

This is my review of Potong Pasir, an area in Singapore that is quite popular even though it is not in the city area unlike Orchard Road and friends. It is easily accessible and has many facilities at your convenience.

First of all, I find that Potong Pasir isn’t that big so any shops or religious place in Potong Pasir can be easily reached just by walking. For example, if you need a snack, you can just walk about 3 minutes to get what you want. Especially with 3 mini marts and 5 convenient stores including 7-Eleven in Potong Pasir, it is quite difficult to not get what you want. Most shops are there for your daily needs like the wet market, the furniture store, medical and dental clinics, shops that supply your home needs and many other shops. You can get almost anything there. There is even ATM machines located at the 2 sides of Potong Pasir. You can get everything just by walking.

The Community Club offers a wide variety of courses and facilities that residents and non-residents can enjoy. Includes a multi-purpose hall for weddings, special programs and badminton. Other facilities includes an archery room, reading corner, jamming studio and a kitchen. They are currently building a lift for those who have trouble climbing stairs. Located in the Community Club, there is also a basketball court and beside it is a street soccer court. There isn’t anything bad about this place.

Traveling to Potong Pasir is very easy since it has many bus and train services that can bring you to this place. Because of that, it is very easy for students of Ascension Kindergarten, St. Andrew’s Junior School, St. Andrew’s Secondary School and St. Andrew’s Junior College. Otherwise also known as the SAV, St. Andrew’s Village. Which consist of schools of all different levels. From preschool all the way to junior college. Studying here is very good too. I see many good points in studying in all these schools since when you move to the next school, it is just a few steps away from your previous one while you also get affiliation bonuses.

For other reasons to like Potong Pasir, it has a church located at SAV, an Indian Temple in the middle of the area and many other religious buildings around. There are also 3 playgrounds for children, a common hangout area for primary and secondary school students called “spiderweb” and this place has quite a long history.

Generally, this is one of the better places to live in Singapore and it is also one of the most “interesting happening” places around.

Disadvantages and Advantages of living in Potong Pasir!

Potong Pasir is where I have spent most of my life. Being in the Junior School, I have spent 7 years in the neighborhood of Potong Pasir. If you were to ask me about the advantage or disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir, I can easily tell you. Potong Pasir is a place that fulfills the needs of people. If you just walk past the Community Centre, you would see people playing basketball in the basketball court, or soccer at the street soccer court. There are many activities going on in the Community Centre, such as archery lessons, tuition, or even booking any of the basketball or street soccer courts to play a match!

In Potong Pasir, it is also very easy for you to get cheap and good things. For example, the food. Potong Pasir has many food courts, two near the community centre, selling varieties of foods. There is also a coffee shop in the inner part of Potong Pasir, to provide convenience for people. If you are looking for cheaps items, you can head to the ABC convenience which sells a huge variety of things. There are also clinics and chinese medical halls, for older people who do not like modern medicine. There is also a small wet market so people living in Potong Pasir do not have to travel so far.

With regards to education, there is St Andrews Junior School, though there are no girls or mixed schools in Potong Pasir which means parents would have to send their children to other places. But for Secondary education, there are two schools, Cedar Girls Secondary and St Andrew's Secondary, which makes it more convenient for the boys or girls to travel to school. The transport for Potong Pasir is also very convenient. It has a MRT, which is very near where the residents live. There is also a bus, that goes to Toa Payoh Interchange, and at Toa Payoh Interchange, you can take buses or trains to go to other places. There are also churches and a temple in Potong Pasir! Residents can go to their religious place, without having to travel a lot!

Sadly, Potong Pasir does not have a shopping mall in which you can buy things. Sometimes, the rowdiness of school kids can irritate the residents, and the older people might abuse their authority at the basketball or street soccer courts. Overall, i think Potong Pasir is a good place to live in. But, we will face our difficulties and challenges if we don't cooperate.

Advantages and Disadvantages of living in potong pasir~ BY MAX ONGG

Although Singapore is small, there are many places where people can stay at,each having their own disadvantages and advantages in staying at the specific place. In this essay,i am going to write about the disdavantages and the advantages in staying at potong pasir.
I will talk about the advantages. There are many advantages in staying at potong pasir,Firstly, there are many places where people can get the food, for example, there is a coffee shop located in an area where it is convenient for most residents to go.If it is close, there is another coffee shop located just beside the MRT station.Besides these two coffee shops, there are also fast food restaurants such as MacDonalds and KFC!
If the residents are sick, they can visit the near by clinic, and guess what, there is a dental clinic situated beside the clinic so it is convenient for residents who needs to visit these places to meet their needs regarding their health.
Finding a place which sells cheaps stuffs? There is a ABC departmental store,it sells daily nesscesities such as shampoo n tooth paste.
There is also a bakery beside the ABC store, residents who are celebrating special occasions such as someone's birthday can get their cakes there. This helps the residents from saving the time and money going to other places to get a cake.
Residents who prefers to eat home-cook food, can go to the wet market to get the food they want.the market there sells a variety of food.
Troublesome to go town area?Think again, there is a MRT station near by.With the help of MRT,the trouble of residents going out is reduced to a minimal. There is a temple to meet the religious needs of some residents.
There is a community center.Elderly often go there to conduct their morning excersise. The community center also has rooms such as a dance studio,a multi purpose hall and a study room for resident to use to conduct any activites they want.
Now i will talk about the disadvantages. There aren't many disadvantages staying in potong pasir. The first disadvantage in staying in potong pasir is those residents staying near the temple will be disturbed by the loud noise such as chanting and praying.
The second disadvantages, due to the number of schools situated in potong pasir and the narrow roads, residents who need to go off for work in the morning and afternoon, will have to make special arrangements to leave the area earlier to avoid being caught in a traffice jam.
As you can see that the advantages exceeds the disadvantages,it is not a bad idea to put potong pasir into consideration as a place to stay.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in Potong Pasir

Is really living in Potong Pasir worth it? Is it really that perfect as some residents said? I may have to disagree on that because every town has its advantages and disadvantages. But what are the advantages and disadvantages that make our Potong Pasir today. Is potong pasir really that convenient?  In this essay, I will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong pasir.
In Potong Pasir, things you need are just so easy to get. You do not need to travel a long journey just to get what you want. My relative is staying in Potong Pasir and they know the neighborhood inside out and they said:”In Potong Pasir, all we need is just a few steps ahead!” Why bother to take a car ride when the things you need are right in front of you. Potong Pasir has everything you need from Laundromats, furniture stores, fast food restaurant and etc the list goes on and on. Potong pasir besides having two fast food restaurants it also have coffee shops which has one of the best local delights I have tasted. Feeling a little hungry or just want to have desserts, there are shops here which sell dessert and even bean curd. There is the cheap and easy to buy ABC that settles your everyday needs. The community centre for me is the best place in Potong Pasir because it offers a wide range of activities you can do like basketball soccer and badminton. There are also piano rooms on the second and third floor and behind all this is the big and fun to play Spider Web.
Potong Pasir has easy and convenient public transport like buses and MRT but personally I have only tooken a few buses from Potong Pasir because I stay at Punggol and there is no direct bus there. But to me, many people find it convenient to travel around like my relative who do not drive and find it convenient to take the MRT. The MRT has two 7-11’s in and out of the station which any drinks or snacks you have forgotten to buy can be bought there.
Here are the disadvantages to live in Potong Pasir, some people might find it convenient to have a neighborhood school but to other people is a misery as St. Andrew’s boys after school might go up the stairs and cause a disturbance around them and even breaking some valuable stuff. But this can also be an advantage as St. Andrew boys help to clean the neighborhood and even donating money to needy people around Potong Pasir. Another disadvantage is that most blocks do not have lifts that stop at every level and can be inconvenient for people who are really very tired and for elderly people. Another disadvantage is our St. Andrew boys do not see the road while they are crossing and sometime cause an accident. Lastly, some of our boys make fun of the Hindu Temple infront of our school and that is an insult to some of our Hindu’s in school and may cause a racial fight.
Potong pasir to me is an ideal place to live in because of the advantages and how convenient it is. From delicious food court to sumptuous fast food restaurant, from nicely decorated public transport to easy and fast buses, all you need is there.
This is the ideal town of mine, what is yours?

Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir - some might say it’s a horrible place to live in, while others think otherwise. Personally, I think it’s a wonderful place to live in. I will be pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir in this essay.

There are countless convenient stores littered across the town. Each store selling a wide range of products from small tidbits, to large items such as mops and brooms. Following this, there are many food areas such as KFC, McDonalds, and stores selling chicken rice and other foods.

Are you sick? Not to worry, there are two or three clinics just around the block for when residents are sick. And if that’s not enough, there’s even a dental surgery clinic around the area. Maybe you’re looking for furniture! There is a furniture store too, though it might not be as great as Ikea or other brands, but I’m sure it’ll suffice. Also, there are quite a number of places of worship for the large community living in Potong Pasir.

School is not ‘biggie’ here. You’ve got the whole St. Andrew’s Village right at your doorstep! Even if you’re struggling at schoolwork, there are tutors around the area to cater to your every academical needs. And say, you’re bored and wanting to play a little football, basketball, or badminton; the Community Centre is open and more than happy to let you play. The centre also provides study areas for those ‘hardworking ones’, and child-care services. It even has a big multi-purpose hall for functions and what not.

Got a bad stain you’re struggling to get off, and in time for school tomorrow? You’re in luck, because there is a laundry service two blocks away from St. Andrew’s School. Or, do you need to rush off to Orchard Road to meet a bunch of friends for a shopping spree? Why not take the subway, there is one just a stone’s throw away.

The only few drawbacks to living is it does not have a Buddhist temple for the many buddhists to worship their god(s). And the roads are small and cramped. This does not help the morning traffic rush for parents sending their children to school, and then hurrying off to work to beat the morning Central Business District traffic congestion.

Clearly, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. So, you could say that living in Potong Pasir isn’t bad one bit.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir is an area which is located in the central area of Singapore.
I have been living in Potong Pasir for the past 12 years of my life and I can safely say that I would be glad to stay here for the rest of my life if I could. There are a couple of reasons why residents choose to stay in Potong Pasir. There are also certain areas of the estate which requires improvement.I will elaborate more of these in the next paragraph.

I will first touch on the advantages of living in Potong Pasir.Firstly, there is a wide variety of food to choose from that the residents can enjoy. The residents can find local delights such as Rojak,Chicken Rice,Hor Fun,Carrot Cake and many more at the coffee shops. There are also two fast-food outlets MacDonalds and KFC.

Secondly, there is a Community Centre which offers classes for young children, adults and even the elderly!Besides the Community Centre, there is also a street soccer court, badminton court  and basketball court for the young and active to enjoy.

Thirdly, there are several places of worship which can be found in Potong Pasir. There is a Hindu Temple for Hindu devotees to worship their god. There is also a mosque and a church nearby.

Lastly, there is also an MRT which provides transport for residents who are traveling to other places.

Although, there are many advantages of living in Potong Pasir, there are also some disadvantages.Firstly, most of the blocks in Potong Pasir have lifts that do not stop at every level. This causes a lot of inconvenience for the elderly residents who take the lift.Secondly, the roads in Potong Pasir are very narrow for cars to pass through and this in turn causes frequent traffic jams along  the shops and school.Lastly, there are many boys from my school St Andrew’s Secondary School who hang around the void-decks and cause disturbance to the residents living near the school with the tone and loudness of their voice.

Advantages and Disadvantages living in Potong Pasir

Once upon a time, a flood prone long forgotten rural area has transformed itself over the last few decades into what is known today as a modern and beautiful constituency called Potong Pasir and the changes continue.
Potong Pasir is a strategic constituency lead by opposition Member of Parliament, Mr Chiam See Tong. Geographically, it lies between Toa Payoh and MacPherson Estates which is somewhere around the central eastern region of Singapore.
Traveling to any part of Singapore is so easy either with mass rapid transit, public transport or driving using highways.
Potong Pasir is a place many certainly will have sweet memories since it was the starting place for many to have received their basic education.
Every morning I enjoyed walking to school by appreciating the on going changes taking place over the past 9 years period.
Without further ado, allow me to share both the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.
Potong Pasir is no doubt an ideal place for residence. Owing to its strategic geographical location, amenities, including schools, MRT Station, Community Centre, Clinics, Convenience Stores and Food Heaven as well as the up and coming MacPherson Exchange, Potong Pasir is changing its outlook like sunrise that takes place every morning.
In particular, the Saint Andrew’s Village, being the first and only one built in Singapore to have all 3 primary, secondary and the junior college housed within the same village.
The Potong Pasir MRT station offers an excellent convenience to residents travelling throughout the island within a matter of few minutes.
The Community Centre offers various facilities and activities enabling Potong Pasir residents a place to relax, communicate, upgrade their skillful knowledge whilst keeping themselves physically fit.
The healthcare clinics are just minutes away between each other within the neighborhood.
Convenience stores operate 24 hours non-stop providing residence true convenience to enjoy the advantage of its present at anytime.
Fast food stores provide excitement to young children whilst the hawker centers offer authentic, affordable food and beverages varieties catering for both the working class and students as well.
Places of worship allow residents to offer their prayer without having to travel too far a distant.
However, being an opposition ward, outside constituencies tend to feel that Potong Pasir residents were the neglected lots.
They are always viewed as though they are not enjoying their fair shares of the country economics successes.
Furthermore, being a matured constituency, there is hardly any empty space that could allow anymore upgrading and transformation to take place, let alone building new flats catering for young couples who grew up and prefers to build their home in Potong Pasir.
Roads are narrow, lifts are poorly maintained.
If these assumptions are true, only time will tells.

Although there are many advantages we shall now take a look at the cons/disadvantages. Having studied in St`Andrew for years, I often felt the lack of a variety of good food other than Sandy's dessert and N & B. Often when my friends live in Potong Pasir, they have to travel to other towns for a major departmental store or supermarket. As the roads are mostly two lanes, there can be serious congestions during peak hours

Advantages and Disadvantages of Potong Pasir

According to David W. Orr, “Our true destiny...is a world built from the bottom up by competent citizens living in solid communities, engaged in and by their places.” This is aptly quoted when we think of the community in Potong Pasir. However, in every place and community there are advantages and drawbacks which in itself makes it unique. The impression one gets on a walk around here is that people respect each other and are united. The major reason for this is that the basic needs of the residents are adequately met because humans cannot live just on “love and fresh air”.
Firstly, there are many shops around Potong Pasir for the convenience of the residents. Take for example, 7-eleven, which operates around the clock. A resident who may need to buy something to eat, perhaps, in the middle of the night could just go over to the 7-eleven store in his own residential area. Besides that, there is also a shop that boasts of cheaper prices for everyday necessities, the ‘ABC shop’ and even the ‘Good Price Shop’.
Next, something that is dear to the heart of every Singaporean - a variety of good food! Residents in Potong Pasir can enjoy food ranging from local delicacies at the shops or even fast food at joints like McDonald’s or even KFC! For those who would prefer a home-cooked meal, there is a wet market and fruit stalls with fresh produce everyday.
Besides gastronomical concerns, accessibility is a factor that residents in Potong Pasir do not have to worry about. The MRT is a key means of transport. Potong Pasir is connected to two MRT interchanges, namely Serangoon Interchange and Dhoby Ghaut interchange. Of course, there are buses and taxis plying people to all parts of Singapore.
The Community Centre plays an important role in uniting the residents. It offers varied classes ranging from piano to dance and even archery classes. Besides the indoor archery range, residents can also play other sports such as basketball and badminton. In addition, the hall can be pre-booked for special occasions such as weddings. Besides the community centre, there are clinics and religious places of worship.
We can also say that the pivotal advantage of Potong Pasir is the St Andrew’s Village that is situated here. From playschool to Junior College, children and youth have excellent educational facilities literally ‘at their doorstep’. For young children, there is even a child care centre at the Potong Pasir community centre.
The drawbacks, however, are few and negligible. For example, some residents would welcome the addition of a pharmacy to the facilities already available. This would enable transactions of basic medication to be easier and possibly save them a trip to the clinic. Other facilities that would be warmly welcomed are a sports goods shop. For many of the residents, especially the potential sportsmen at St Andrew’s schools, sports equipment would be something they would like to access easily.
Nevertheless, we believe that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Potong Pasir is a well developed community, which can facilitate the progress of its residents, and will continue to develop for the better in the coming years.

Advantages and Disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir (Soo Ee Ter)

Would you say that the town you live in is a perfect town? I highly doubt it! A perfect town is hard to find, towns have their good points and their bad points, and Potong Pasir, is no exception, the question is “What are the good and the bad points?” or “Are there more good points or bad points?”. In this essay I will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.

In the town of Potong Pasir, daily necessities are just a short walk away. Potong Pasir town resident Joel Ng said:”In Potong Pasir, everything we need is there!” and with the number and diversity of shops, there is no doubt about that. Ranging from Laundromats to fast food restaurants, Potong Pasir has it all, shops like Laundromats, bookstores, furniture stores, clothing stores, and the cheap and efficient ABC provision shop settles your every day needs, and fast food restaurants like KFC , Macdonalds and several coffee shops gives Potong Pasir residents a burst of flavors to excite their taste buds. Other things like Singapore pools and a POSB ATM are there too. The community centre offers many things, including a badminton hall, piano rooms, basketball courts and many more, also offering many different courses, tuition and childcare services. There is also a street soccer court nearby the Community centre and the well known landmark of Potong Pasir, the Spider Web.

The obstreperous and rowdy boys from St. Andrew’s school may be a disturbance to residents, crowding up the food areas in the afternoon and causing mischief around the neighbourhood. The volume of which these obnoxious boys speak in may disturb residents who need their peace and quiet, but the boys from St. Andrew’s School are not all bad, with the school’s community involvement program, the residents will find that the boys from St. Andrew’s are helping the environment around Potong Pasir by cleaning up the area, recycling and much more, and also, I believe the boys of St. Andrew’s give Potong Pasir a lot of life, giving a spirit of youth in the atmosphere.

Some residents might complain about the public transport system of Potong Pasir, for only one bus enters Potong Pasir avenue 1 and 2, but the MRT system seems to carry smiles from the residents of Potong Pasir, resident Joel Ng says: “The MRT station is very near the central of the MRT line.” The MRT is also very well decorated with the winning photos of St. Andrew’s School’s Tan Teck Liam photo competition, keeping the MRT bright and beautiful.

Is Potong Pasir being managed by opposition Member of Parliament, Chiam See Tong, from the Singapore People’s Party a good thing or a bad thing? Residents claim that it is a good thing, despite People’s Action Party’s promise for extensive upgrading of the Potong Pasir estate if they switched management to People’s Action Party. Residents would rather it stay the same.

In my point of view, Potong Pasir would be a great place to live, everything you need is all there, naughty but caring boys roaming around after school, beautiful and strategic location of the MRT station, heartwarming and kind residents, Potong Pasir really is the place to live.

When I asked resident Joel Ng, “What makes Potong Pasir, Potong Pasir?”, he said the words of Potong Pasir’s meaningful and deserving motto:” Its my kind of town.”.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LIVING IN POTONG PASIR~

Potong Pasir is an area located between Toa Payoh and Sennett Estate in the Central Region of Singapore. It is also under the leadership of the opposition party. It is obvious that this small cosy town has its own pros and cons. Potong Pasir has become my second home ever since the start of my school life in St Andrews Junior School and now that I have gone to the Secondary school it has been 15 years. Seeing the place about five times a week I only have one word for it, ‘Home’. Hence, without further ado, I will proceed to the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.

Living in Potong Pasir has several benefits reaped. Firstly, it is a rather convenient place to stay, as a train station is situated near to the estate, therefore residents can use the train to get to other places across Singapore in a few minutes.
Apart from that, living here has another perk, which is none other than the St Andrews Village. It contains three separate cohorts of students in different education levels - primary, secondary and the junior college. Therefore this attracts several residents to send their sons there where they can enjoy affiliations when they decide to continue their education in St Andrews.
Students and residents can also enjoy a wide variety of food after their school or work in Potong Pasir, such as fast food restaurants like Mac Donalds and a KFC. They are many nearby old coffee shops selling many authentic cuisines at reasonable prices.
There are also places of worship in Potong Pasir for several religions, the Hindu Temple a Mosque and even a church of ascension in the school village itself. The Potong Pasir community club is where residents and students mostly do exercise and recreational activities it has a dance studio, archery classes and a childcare centre. Facilities in the club like a street soccer court and basketball court are available for residents to spend their leisure time there.
Finally, there are also several clinics if residents tend to fall ill and even a Chinese herbal shop for them who take herbs instead of consulting the doctor as it is definitely more expensive.

Sad to say, there are a few detriments, like in every other estate. The roads of Potong Pasir can be improved if they are wider, as they frequently cause morning jams among the cars of working residents and parents dropping their children off to school.
It also lacks hygiene level among the old coffee shops, hence, is a threat to students and residents that have their meals after school or work.
It also applies on the old shop houses that have not been given a fresh layer of paint or not torn down. Potong Pasir also lacks modern housing, thus, the standard of living is low. As a result, fewer buyers would choose to live in Potong Pasir.
Despite the disadvantages, Potong Pasir is my ideal estate of living in my opinion. This region truly portrays the necessities of living, namely - convenience, facilities, and an education hub. Furthermore, the benefits I have raised definitely have outweighed the detriments in this small city.

Advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir, the home of Saint Andrew's Village and the residents. Potong Pasir is the heart of the students at Saint Andrew's. The area has almost everything both to eat and play. It plays an important role in our lives as we travel there about five times a week.

Some advantage of living in Potong Pasir is that they have cheap food and drinks being sold. One specific example I would recommend is the small restaurant called Shi Mei Restaurant, selling good and cheap food for the students there. They also have McDonalds and KFC there too. Those who love fast food could walk to the stalls and grab some fast food when they also have extra lessons in school. There are also two different mini hawker centres there. They have two 7-Elevens and a couple stalls selling bubble tea and drinks. Above all, I would recommend trying the barbeque wings at the hawker centre nearer to the MRT.

Some disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir is the nuisance and way of life the students have there. Not many other school students had been seen at Potong Pasir recently due to the rudeness and unpoliteness of the boys in Saint Andrews. One thing I would recommend that Potong Pasir should have is one or two shopping malls. Even though there are other shopping malls nearby like NEX at Serangoon and another at Dhoby Ghaut. I would also recommend a park there as there is not much greens in Potong Pasir, and to make the area look vibrant.

Advantages and Disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir

What are the chances getting rob in Singapore? What are the chances you will get in gang activity in your neighbourhood?Potong Pasir a important part of our lives we go there at least 5 times a week. It becomes like our second home because we go there to learn, eat and play.

Potong Pasir is a healthy community with many advantages and disadvantages. We have many advantages such as the nearby community centre which offers many courses such as teaching music and art. The community centre even have lots of facilities such as the badminton court, the basketball court and even a soccer court they even have a spider web. The community centre even have its very own KFC. Speaking of food we have 2 hawker centre and a McDonald and a resturant called Shi-Mei Resturant which the most popular meal is their chicken rice. They aslo have their own wet market and nearby the wet market there is a hair saloon there is also a ladunary shop nearby which help you wash your clothes. There is aslo many convient store such as the seven eleven,AbC store where everything is cheap for example a can drink is sold for only sixty cent. There is aslo no doubt that our school Saint Andrew make it easier for people who don't want their child to go too far from their home in Potong Pasir. Saint andrew aslo have their very own chruch and nearby the school there is a religious indian temple which is used for doing religious activities. There is aslo a public transport such as the MRT and the bus transport which help you to travel from one place to another.

The disadvantages are that there are not enough handicap facilities. Another diadvantages is that the building look old and might need some repainting and repairing, there isn't a shopping mall nearby to buy things like clothes. The last disadvantage is that the technological level is very low and need upgrading.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Potong Pasir Estate

Nowadays, is it scarcely possible to stay in a estate without problems? Let me prove it. People buying a house in an estate would want it to be a safe area, free of gang activities, fight that is so uncontrollable that it has to involve police interference or even foreign workers becoming drunk and giving problems. Every day would be like hell in that particular estate. Disturbance when trying to watch a movie, sleeping or even studying… Examples of this kind of an estate are Ang Suan; Redhill, Toa Payoh, Bukit Panjang(Downtown East)etc....One example of a safe and peaceful estate is Potong Pasir and that is what I am going  to write about.                                                                                                                                                                   Some people might think why am I writing about Potong Pasir? Or even ask what so big about Potong Pasir, it’s a small area and even controlled by th opposition party so what is so big about it? What I can say wether it is big or small what it contains is the most important. The advantages of Potong pasir are the transport facilities around it. Example, we have the bus systems and even the MRT system. First about the mrt system. It is the station in the purple MRT line aka The North South Mrt line. I also have to confess about something, to be frank I do not know where the buses go in the bus system in Potong Pasir. There is a Community centre in Potong Pasir too. Even if the community centre is not so big, it has a lot of facilities like basket ball courts and a street soccer court to use for recreational activities and there is a KFC too. Potong Pasir is like a food paradise, with so many variety of food in food courts and restaurants people who are living in Potong Pasir would never go hungry. Prices are also affordable. There is also a ABC shop where everything is cheap and efficient. A wet market is also in potong pasir to buy your poultry and seafood. POSB atm machine is also in Potong pasir to draw money and deposit cheques. There is also a school (St.Andrews Village) which consists of the primary, secondary school and a junior college. There is also a kindergarten behind the secondary school, which makes it a full education system. There is also a Indian temple which is used for indian religious activities. The disadvantages are that there are not much handicap facilities and the buildings look old and outdated. Overall I think that Potong Pasir is a living paradise. Those who are planning to change house might want to make Potong Pasir one of their choice of estate. By: N.Yohan Class: 3ST Index: (37)
