Secondary 3 Boot/Fun Camp

“From toddlers to boys, from boys to teenagers, from teenagers to men, that’s life’s story but it mainly depends on how we ourselves plan it to be,” Sathya Mathiyalagan                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The shimmering lights from the sun seeped through the dark grey clouds of the blue sky. It was a long night for me packing my camping bag and we had to buy those stuff we need in the camp that I did not have. Still even though I was so sleepy I could not sleep, it was like I was in a sleeping disorder. This explained my sleepiness in the morning. When I reached school I was already late so I had to run with my FAT, HEAVY camping bag. It was an experience that I did not want to have again. The same old morning assembly was in action! After the morning assembly we were assigned to our trainers for the camp. Our trainers were Hillme a Malay Guy and Omar an American Malay, both of them were cool guys.   Our first look at Omar and we shrills ran up my spine he looked like a strict trainer who had never smiled in his life. Our bus…..really a first class bus, like the one we needed. It was a long trip to Camp Christine, close to the border of Singapore-Malaysia. Our ride there was truly scary. Lim Chu Kang was the first street I have seen with so many cemeteries. Camp Christine was not so bad infact it was nicer than what we expected. We were assembled in our classes. We were forced by the chief of the camp to sit under the sun for about 45 minutes while they were under the shade planning for the day. First activity is that we had to pitch our own tents. After pitching it we had to arrange it in rows. Next we had our lunch; we had rice, fish sticks, hotdogs and vegetables.                                                                                                                                                Our second activity was to catch grass hoppers, crickets and frogs alive; we also had to get dead fragments of a banana leaves, bird nest ferns, staghorn ferns etc….In this activity the frog catching was the most fun! But the biggest joke is that Justin caught a chameleon and accidentally let it escape in the Olave hall and all the students, teachers, trainers went screaming and running about. To tell the truth that was the slackest day. There was no brain cracking games or physical testing games in fact we cheated in most of the games especially the magic carpet. When Omar was looking away, we got off the carpet, flipped it and got on it again and he did not even know it. All the games were very fun, but I was expecting the next day for the nature rumble.                                                                                                                                             After the games, we had our dinner. The third activity was the night walk. It was as fun as all the games just that this one was scarier because Lincoln Peh started to shout as though he was possessed! Then i just had the feeling that it was bad, but the problem was that Lincoln Peh missed a step and his legs went straight into the drain! Then came the night. We had to rest as much as we could as the next day will be the most tiring. The next day morning we had to drag ourselves to our lodge. We had our breakfast: we had rice with fish cake and veggies. Then we went to our nature rumble. We had to walk in a trail of thick mud but it became worst for us because the rain had made the mud more wet and thick. And we also took a walk in a chest-deep river. Then we had to make it through the forest but we were lost in the forest after following a group of girls from another school. We were very angry at them for losing their way making us lose ours but eventually we found our way and we ran away from the girls. Our next activity was to build a raft and race with another group of friends. Our raft was a good and strong one but Joshua could not balance in it so we all toppled over and that was the last activity of the day. We also had the campfire but we forgot to make the cheer for it so 5 minutes before the camp fire we made our cheer and it went well in the fun and peaceful campfire. The next day we were in formed that we won the best cheer award in coming with the award was two bottles of coke. We were so sad of leaving the camp that we cheered for Omar all the way till we reached the bus because he made our camp as fun as ever.
